      Little Known Facts About Crisis Ministry of Davidson County and Our Shelters CRISIS MINISTRY OF DAVIDSON COUNTYTUESDAY, JULY 24, 2018 The adult shelter houses 48 men and 16 women and operates at or near full capacity year-round. Genesis House, our family shelter, is equipped to house 7 families of varying sizes and stays full, usually with a waiting list. Residents are routinely checked for alcohol and drug abuse. Help and treatment is offered where needed but noncompliance is not tolerated. Residents are required to seek employment for jobs that match their mental and physical capabilities. Residents are assisted in every avenue to obtain assistance from government and private organizations. Residents are required to save 50% of the money they earn while being fed and housed at the shelter so they can obtain housing as soon as possible. Residents are required to participate in the cleaning and organization of the shelter. While its their home they accept the responsibility of taking care of it. Residents of the adult shelter are not allowed to stay inside and stay in bed all day. They are up and out of the shelter by 7am and not allowed back in until time to eat in the evening. We do not operate a place for people to crash and stay. We offer people a hand up and a way out of homelessness. Residents hear the good news of Jesus Christ and his Saving Grace often while they are residents in the shelter. Almost every meal single meal provided at the homeless shelters are prepared and provided by volunteers free of charge. 100% of the money donated is used to operate the shelter and pay the staff. the utility bill alone is in excess of $3000 each month. Board members serve as volunteers with no pay. Most of the money to operate the shelter comes from local churches, local businesses, civic clubs and individuals in Davidson County. Volunteer service at Crisis Ministry is estimated to be more valuable in dollars than the actual dollars donated. No one ever pays 1¢ to stay at the shelter. No one ever pays 1¢ for food from the Food Pantry. No one ever pays 1¢ for clothing from the Clothing Closet. Crisis Ministry never borrows money. Crisis Ministry has no debt. All buildings, furnishings and equipment were donated and paid for by people like you. Crisis Ministry does not belong to a church or to the government. Crisis Ministry belongs to you, the people of Davidson County. Many local businesses contribute labor and materials to maintain the facilities at Crisis Ministry. Many local businesses provide food and clothing to the folks at the shelter. Many local professionals provide reduced rates on legal and professional services for our ministry. Some of the volunteers work at the ministry as though they have a regular job there and never get paid. The things we do at Crisis Ministry are based on Matthew 25:40. The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
