What's the Scoop?: Chasing Stories in Art

What's the Scoop?: Chasing Stories in Art Creative Writing Workshops for Adults with Julia Ridley Smith   Four Saturdays, Oct 19, Nov 16, Feb 22, and Mar 14—2:00-4:30 pm Snowdate: Mar 28 $20 per session general admission/$15 per session WAM members, classroom teachers, college & university students   Borrowing the concept of the five Ws from journalism—who, what, when, where, and why—we'll investigate artworks in the Weatherspoon and use our "reporting" to develop new creative writing. Each session will explore a different exhibition, and writers will be given prompts and exercises to generate multiple "leads" for short stories, creative nonfiction, or poems. Sessions will build on each other but can also be attended independently. For educators: Participate in all four sessions and earn literacy CEUs with prior approval of your school system. The workshop will emphasize having fun and sparking creativity—writers of all levels are welcome.   Julia Ridley Smith’s short stories and essays have appeared most recently in the Alaska Quarterly Review, Ecotone, the New England Review, and The Southern Review. She teaches in the English Department at UNC Greensboro, serves as a volunteer docent at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, and is an associate editor at Bull City Press. Check out her website: www.juliaridleysmith.com.  Pre-registration is via Eventbrite Questions?
